A school psychologist lives life isolated and alone, her roommate, Deana, her only real friend. When a student reveals abuse at home, it triggers a reaction inside of Barbara, and she is forced to confront the fragile space between reality and the walls we construct to protect our psyche.
SYNOPSIS:
Barbara is the stereotypical cat lady. She and her roommate, Deana, live in an old Victorian house they share with more than 30 cats. She rarely leaves the house except when going to work, having constructed a carefully curated life that allows her to exist with minimal contact with the outside world.
Her daily routine is upended when Kristina, an eight-year-old student at the school she serves as school psychologist for, reveals to Barbara the sexual abuse she is suffering at home. Barbara works diligently to protect Kristina and remove her from that environment. As she deals with the situation, she is forced to confront her own past traumas and abuse.
She leans on Deana as a source of support and wisdom, and she considers the best way to help Kristina and herself. Deana’s uncommonly wise advice is the only source of influence Barbara has access to and gives her the necessary encouragement and strength to follow her convictions. Barbara begins to question that wisdom as Deana begins to turn into something completely different and reveals herself to be much more impactful than Barbara could ever have imagined.
