A reserved teacher and his skeptical wife inherit a lakeside cottage, only to uncover a hidden fortune in the old woodshop. As a mysterious ex-con renter enters their lives, past sins resurface, forcing them to decide: keep the money or risk everything.
SYNOPSIS:
When Jeff Dobson, a mild-mannered middle school teacher, inherits a remote lakeside property and wood shop from his estranged, recently deceased brother, he sees it as an unexpected windfall. But any illusions of “happily ever after” vanish when Tommy, a tough but polite young ex-con claiming ties to Jeff’s brother, shows up at his door hoping to rent the wood shop and restart his woodworking career. Despite Jeff’s wife Mandy’s suspicions, they reluctantly agree, hoping Tommy’s work will help them afford the property. However, the arrival of this stranger unearths more than sawdust and old tools; it stirs a history Jeff’s brother left buried along with a fortune, setting in motion a game of deceit, intimidation, and ultimately survival.
Tommy’s arrival becomes a catalyst for the Dobsons, who gradually uncover that Jeff’s brother had a darker side, one that Jeff had spent his life trying to avoid. As Tommy's true intentions reveal themselves, Jeff finds himself drawn into a violent cat-and-mouse game where the lines between victim and aggressor blur. The wood shop, meant as a space for creation, transforms into a battleground of hidden motives and twisted allegiances. Forced to confront his own ties to his brother's criminal past, Jeff must decide whether to defend his family or confront the truth about his inheritance.
