15 years after an alien virus decimates civilization, a ruthless survivor finds her humanity again when tasked with delivering two teens to their rebellious father.
SYNOPSIS:
15 years ago, a series of comets exploded in the upper atmosphere. From it, an ancient, alien virus infected several populations across the world. Those infected began to grow large, red welts and would eventually lose their minds, looking to bite any non-infected human they could find. During that time, Riley, a 14 year old track prodigy and daddy’s girl, would bear witness to the initial outbreak and watch her father die, not to the virus, but her fellow man.
Flash forward 15 years, only a handful of major cities and settlements remain, scattered and isolated. Riley, now 29, has turned into a ruthless survivor, only interested in keeping herself and her partner alive. They are a pair of mercenaries, willing to take any job as long as the pay is good.
Riley’s life takes an unexpected turn when a contact of hers brings an unusual job. Deliver a 16 year old boy and his 13 year old half sister, who have only recently learned of each other, to their father to the next town over. To complicate matters, their father is wanted by the local government for assassinating one of its council members.
Now, Riley and her partner must guide these children to the next settlement to reunite these kids with their fugitive father. But why? Why would a father take such a risk and for what reasons? As for the kids themselves, is there more to the story? And, will Riley be able to care for these children?
Cicadas is a tragic story that explores how our past traumas can negatively affect us now. The nature of parenthood and sibling relationships. Unravel the mystery of why this father would kill a council member then flee without his kids. And, what does this alien virus say about us as a society? Only by experiencing Riley’s journey will we explore a post-apocalyptic nightmare, with danger around every corner…
