SYNOPSIS:

EP01 Jinsu Park, a 43-year-old Korean commercial director nicknamed “Uncle Hollywood,” scrapes by shooting energy-drink ads and weddings while clinging to the dream of making real movies. After a frustrating commercial shoot, an old friend in Los Angeles calls with a sudden opportunity: Hollywood producers want to meet him about directing a big sci-fi feature. Torn between family skepticism and lifelong ambition, Jinsu begins to consider the leap.

EP02 With only days to decide, Jinsu scrambles for the money to fly to Los Angeles. He hustles camera deposits, family loans, and wedding cash while the producers grow impatient and another, more experienced director enters the picture. After a desperate final scramble and a declined payment, Jinsu books the flight.

EP03 Jinsu lands in Los Angeles late for the meeting. In a tense, high-stakes session he refuses to soften his criticism of the script and somehow walks out with the directing job — on the condition that he work inside a production that already has its own cast, crew, and schedule. He immediately begins clashing with the system.

EP04 On his first day of shooting, Jinsu struggles to find the scene, calling take after take with no clear notes. Drawing on his own complicated relationship with his late father, he finally unlocks a powerful performance from the lead actor. The day ends under schedule, but the fight over creative control has only begun.

EP05 Ellen formally cuts the key emotional line Jinsu fought for. He shoots both versions anyway and forces a confrontation that reveals the truth: he was hired as a disposable director for a troubled production no one expected to succeed. Stunned but clear-eyed, Jinsu begins secretly assembling his own cut of the movie.

EP06 The secret cut is discovered and Jinsu is fired. The original “safe” director, Kang Min-Jae, is brought in. Adrian refuses to work without Jinsu. After a painful family video call that strips away the last of his performance, Jinsu cancels his flight home and returns to the studio gate with no badge and no authority — only the unfinished movie.

EP07 Jinsu operates from outside the system, offering notes to his own replacement. Kang takes the notes and delivers stronger versions of the key scenes. On the final day of shooting, Jinsu and Kang together find a new ending: the Emperor walks away from the throne. Jinsu gives the note and leaves the decision to the producers.

EP08 In the edit, the walk-away ending is chosen. Jinsu receives “Additional Directing” credit and returns to Seoul. He resumes shooting commercials with quieter confidence, reconnects with his family without needing to perform, and receives a new script from Marcus. The series ends with Jinsu walking through the Seoul night reading the pages — still working, no longer waiting to be seen.
