SYNOPSIS:

ACT ONE

Eighteen-year-old guitarist Riley Richards dreams of building a real band but lacks a singer capable of bringing her vision to life. While rehearsing with her friends Cass Casava and Sophie Silverman in her mother's garage, they encounter Emma Emerson, an eccentric, socially awkward outsider with an encyclopedic knowledge of music. After an awkward introduction, Emma agrees to audition.

What begins as a simple test becomes a revelation. Emma transforms a rehearsal of "Driven to Tears" into something electric, instantly proving herself indispensable. Inspired by her talent and unique perspective, the girls begin rehearsing together, developing chemistry and confidence as a group.

Emma pushes the band beyond cover songs and encourages Riley to share an original composition. Riley reluctantly unveils "Echoes in the Static," a song that reveals her hopes for the band and impresses everyone. Soon, each member is challenged to write an original song of her own. Through the songwriting process, the girls reveal pieces of themselves they have never shared before.

Sophie shocks the band by performing "Thermostat," a deeply personal confession of her romantic feelings for Emma. The revelation threatens to destabilize the group, but Emma responds with honesty and compassion, strengthening their bond rather than destroying it.

ACT TWO

At the showcase venue, THE NOISE is treated like a professional act for the first time. Wardrobe fittings, rehearsals, production crews, cameras, and sound checks make the experience feel overwhelming, but the girls gradually realize they belong there.

Before the performance, the group faces its most painful challenge. Their set is cut from five songs to three, forcing them to decide which songs will survive. What begins as a practical discussion becomes an emotional reckoning. Every song represents one of them. Cutting a song feels like rejecting a friend.

After difficult debate, they select Sophie's "Thermostat," Cass's "Too Much Clean Air," and Riley's "White Knuckles Turn to Gold." Emma's unfinished song and Riley's earlier composition are sacrificed. The decision teaches Riley an important lesson: the band is no longer about her ambitions. It is about all four voices.

The showcase begins. "White Knuckles Turn to Gold" wins over the audience. "Thermostat" creates an even deeper emotional connection, earning a standing ovation and validating Sophie's courage in sharing her truth.

Then Riley reveals the surprise she has secretly arranged.

Instead of ending with one of their originals, THE NOISE launches into "Driven to Tears"—the same song Emma used during her audition in the garage. The song that brought them together.
