A FATHER FOR ABIGAIL
By Gloria Salazar

GENRE: Thriller, Drama
LOGLINE:

When a schizophrenic loner kidnaps the estranged father who never knew she existed, they must forge an unlikely bond to keep her out of the hospital—or risk losing each other forever.

SYNOPSIS:

Abigail Bunton has spent her life under the protective wing of her ailing mother, Wendy. Battling schizophrenia, Abigail struggles to keep reality from unraveling. When Wendy succumbs to cancer, Abigail’s world collapses. Found tearing apart her home by Marvin, a kindly local pharmacist, she is hospitalized until the doctors deem her stable enough to face the world alone.

Meanwhile, Jonathan Everett, a washed-up former actor drowning in alcohol, contemplates a comeback. His agent insists a book signing in his hometown could be the perfect PR boost. Unbeknownst to Jonathan, Wendy, his high school sweetheart, had his child and spent her life waiting for him to return.

When Jonathan learns of Wendy’s death, he decides to pay his respects. But Abigail, overwhelmed by grief and the hallucinations she battles daily, mistakes Jonathan for a figment of her mind. Panic-stricken, she knocks him out and ties him to a chair, convinced she must unravel the truth before releasing him.

Over a chaotic weekend, Jonathan battles withdrawal symptoms while Abigail navigates her fractured reality, haunted by voices and hallucinations. Despite their clumsy and volatile introduction, genuine moments of connection emerge. Jonathan’s guarded cynicism softens as he recognizes Abigail’s vulnerability and brilliance.

But their tenuous bond is threatened by an opportunistic intruder—a local thug intent on robbing the “crazy lady” now living alone. As the intruder breaks in, Jonathan must break free to save Abigail from real danger. Fighting off the attacker, Jonathan witnesses Abigail’s mental state plummet into a severe episode. Yet, his presence and reassurance manage to pull her back from the edge.

Jonathan, now sober and humbled, acknowledges Abigail as his daughter. Determined to repair the damage caused by his absence, he offers her a new life under his care. United by tragedy and healing, father and daughter forge an unexpected bond, with Jonathan ultimately embracing a new career path—family films—as a tribute to the daughter he almost lost.

This sounds interesting, Gloria Salazar. I think "forge an unlikely bond" is vague though. I suggest telling how they go about keeping her out of the hospital.

When a delusional schizophrenic impulsively kidnaps the estranged father who never knew she existed, they must battle her hallucinations along with his withdrawals to keep her out of the hospital- or risk losing each other forever. Maurice Vaughan Does this seem more to the point?
