I'M JUST ME
By Lucy Addams

GENRE: Drama
LOGLINE:

In the wake of a devastating abuse, a teenage girl embarks on a journey of self-discovery, confronting societal judgments and her own fears as she finds strength, healing, and love in the most unexpected places.

SYNOPSIS:

Seventeen-year-old Lizzy feels invisible in her working-class world: her family’s struggling convenience store, her brother Zack’s reckless charm, and the suffocating expectations of high school hierarchy. But when a group project pairs her with Nat—the sharp-tongued, seemingly perfect it-girl—their combative dynamic cracks open a fragile connection. Nat’s invitation to a party sparks Lizzy’s hope for belonging, but the night turns catastrophic when Omar, a boy whose casual confidence masks predation, isolates and assaults her.

Traumatized and silenced by victim-blaming and a failed legal system, Lizzy retreats into shame, pushing away her fiercely loyal soccer teammate Chris and her family. Only Nat, wrestling with her own suffocating perfectionism, refuses to let Lizzy disappear—slowly dismantling her walls with quiet solidarity. As Lizzy confronts her trauma through therapy, a queer mentor’s guidance, and Nat’s unwavering support, she begins to reclaim her voice, exposing Omar’s crimes despite institutional indifference.

Amidst the fallout, Lizzy’s relationships deepen: Zack’s guilt transforms into protectiveness, her parents’ helplessness into advocacy, and Nat’s friendship into a tender, affirming romance. In a poignant climax, Lizzy trades self-blame for defiance, embracing her messy, unapologetic self—whether the world is ready or not.
