When a lonely screenwriter falls for an online stranger impersonating actress Lucy Hale, he retreats into increasingly vivid encounters with her Pretty Little Liars character—until the fantasy meant to protect him from the deception begins consuming his reality.

David Williamson is a disillusioned Pennsylvania pharmacy technician and aspiring screenwriter trapped between the monotony of work, the chaos of family life, and a growing sense that he has disappeared inside his own existence.

Then a stranger claiming to be actress Lucy Hale messages him online.

David knows something isn't right. The inconsistencies are obvious, the supposed management team wants money, and every new promise seems to come with another fee. But the woman behind the screen gives him something reality hasn't in years: attention. She makes him feel interesting, desirable, creative—and seen.

What begins as suspicious curiosity becomes an intensely personal fifteen-day relationship. As "Lucy" draws David deeper into promises of private meetings, VIP access and emotional intimacy, he knowingly ignores mounting evidence that he is being manipulated. His work suffers, his family watches him withdraw, and the fantasy of finally meeting Lucy becomes more important than the increasingly uncomfortable truth.

Then Lucy Hale's Pretty Little Liars character, Aria Montgomery, begins appearing in David's fantasies.

At first, Aria is everything David needs her to be: confidante, seductress, protector and escape. But as the catfish gains greater control over him, Aria changes with her. Comfort becomes possession. Affection becomes humiliation. The fictional woman David retreats to for protection begins confronting him with the very truths he is trying to escape.

By the time David prepares to leave Pennsylvania for the meeting he has convinced himself will make everything real, he already understands that Lucy may never have existed. Knowing the truth, however, proves far easier than walking away from the feeling she created.

When the illusion finally collapses, David is forced to confront something more devastating than the scam itself: the stranger didn't create his loneliness. She discovered it—and learned how to monetize it.

With fantasy and reality collapsing around him, David must decide whether to disappear completely into the world he created or reclaim the one thing the catfish could never actually take from him: his own story.
