AT THE EDGE OF THE FRAME

AT THE EDGE OF THE FRAME
By Abdusamad Shafiev

GENRE: Romance, Drama
LOGLINE: An aspiring screenwriter and a divorced documentary filmmaker collide in New York, where their passionate one-night stand exposes fears, traumas, and the inability to escape from themselves.

SYNOPSIS:

Sultan, a 28-year-old Arab, dreams of conquering New-York as a screenwriter, but instead of fame he gets a job at a construction site and a bed in a hostel. His life is an endless draft: loans, homesickness and fear that his parents will find out the truth.

Sofia, a 36-year-old director, is trying to start all over again after her divorce from her domineering husband. Her documentary about children with autism is failing, and her ex-husband is harassing her with phone calls, reminding her: "Nobody needs you."

Their meeting on a dating site seems random, but on the first date, against the backdrop of a warm summer evening, they enjoy a walk in a dark park, share dreams and reflections on life. However, when their evening ends with a passionate intertwining of bodies, internal conflicts and fears arise. Their night together turns into a series of conflicts. The deeper they dive into the relationship, the more clearly their wounds appear: Sultan's fear of becoming a loser and Sofia's horror of repeating the mistakes of the past.

Two lost people are trying to become the authors of their own destinies, but life writes plots tougher than cinema.
