A young naïve renegade fairy must prove her worthiness as a warrior against an egocentric scientist.

SYNOPSIS:

Sylph is a spritely young pure-hearted Fairy born in the magical realm of Pixie Hollow. The following evening, she is revealed to be the next Wind Spirit Guardian, and is imbued with the power of the wind. However, her life soon takes a dark turn when she realizes that being the Wind Spirit is not all fun and games, it’s a wake-up call where she must learn to bear the burden of her ancestors.

Unwilling to sacrifice her purity for a war she doesn’t want to participate in, she runs away. Escaping via a Warp Pot into the Earth, where she meets a depressed widow named Dorothy Allison. Despite the latter’s attempts to dismiss the Fairy’s childish yearning for connections resonates with the widow and they form an unusual bond. Unfortunately, Sylph accidentally causes the wreckage of a few buildings which alarms everyone including the government.

Sylph is my take on a flat character, where she doesn’t change externally or internally, but her pure-hearted nature rubs off on those around her and sparks the catalyst for their arcs. Which is what modern Hollywood has been trying to do with its “strong female character” archetype. But fails in grounding them with realistic moral constraints, out of fear of admitting to themselves that real women connect with real women not Mary Sues.

By the final act, Sylph defeats Professor Meeks by proving to her that self-love is possible despite the hardships they endured which forced them both down a path of self-hatred. As well as concluding with her and Dorothy starting a new life together as mother and daughter in LA. Finally, after the post-credits, Undine the Water Spirit arrives looking for Sylph for a powerful and ancient artifact.
