EL PECADO DE MI MADRE
By Alinser Hoyos

GENRE: Drama
LOGLINE:

A teenage girl victim of an arranged marriage builds an everlasting bond with her eldest son thanks to their secret and the hope that her sin will never be revealed.

SYNOPSIS:

JUAN GOMEZ (28) is an opportunistic man determined to marry a pretty young woman from an affluent and reputable family. CAMILA SANTANA (17) and her younger sister MANUELA (16) are two beautiful girls in the prime age for marriage in the late 50s. Their parents, MR. AND MRS. SANTANA must decide who would be the best option to marry the handsome and endearing Juan.

Even though Manuela is capriciously interested in being Juan’s girlfriend, her age becomes an issue. And although Camila is not interested in getting married, but is the eldest daughter, her parents decide that she must be the one getting married even if he is not the man she loves. This decision benefits Juan because he finds himself extremely attracted to Camila and no longer interested in Manuela. Thus, this decision creates a conflict that changes their lives in ways not expected.

After several months, Camila is obliged to marry Juan and therefore moves to another city to live in impoverished conditions in contrast to her comfortable life alongside her family. Juan's intentions are little by little revealed, and his actions such as raping Camila, his verbal abuse, cheating, and lying show us what a cruel and manipulative man he is. These awful experiences and trauma transform Camila into the submissive wife her parents wanted her to be and her faith intended.

Although the abuse from Juan continues, adjusting to her new life becomes less difficult after moving to her own house and not having to deal with the mistreatment from Juan's relatives. Then giving birth to her first son, MARIO and meeting the man she falls in love with add to the ups and downs of this story. When MARTIN, Camila’s new love interest comes into her life, he disrupts her existence and creates more conflict as he wants to take her away from Juan and give her the good life she deserves. But because of her ideals that being married and loving another man is a sin, her life grows more complicated as she must decide what to do.

As Camila deals with doubt, guilt, isolation, and struggles with her extramarital affair, she becomes pregnant with her second child, DIEGO. Subsequently, her situation gets increasingly complicated as Juan gets closer to discovering the truth, and her son Mario becomes the keeper of her secret and confidant. Consequently, her relationship with Juan evolves as she makes a decision that creates an even worse situation for herself and her first son Mario, as he also becomes a victim of verbal abuse from Juan.

Even though life seems to change for all and be perfect, the conflicts that restructured their lives reveal an unhappy truth. As life happens, time passes, and death arrives, some truths are unearthed. But neither these revelations nor the actions of one of the characters will bring resolution to this intricate plot until an even more dramatic twist occurs. Ultimately, the hopes that a happy ending can be possible is disrupted by an imaginable catastrophe: a twisted version of a forbidden love.
