SYNOPSIS:
Matt is an up and coming guitarist who meets Rose, an ambitious actress, at a show. They dance, take a couple selfie, and dive into a night of passion. The next day, Matt takes pictures of Rose in mock photoshoot and wins her a plush bear in a carnival game before they part. Matt enjoys wild succcess with his band and romances April, also an up and coming musician, while Rose lands her breakthrough role, finds fame, awards, and a string of romances.
Careers soar, yet they stay in touch. One day, Matt jokes that he’ll post the pictures that he took of Rose during their first day together online. He then gifts her the pictures and she admits she likes them. The on and off contact raises April’s suspicions, but she’s doing the same thing, so Matt calls out her hypocrisy. Things boil over when he finds her cheating. Matt storms out, finishes another tour and, much to his surprise, gets a call from Rose. They agree to meet.
It’s been 3 years. Rose says she just wants to catch up, but Matt calls her out, says she hasn’t had a stable relationship since her success and she called him. Rose calls Matt out, says he’s just on a rebound after a bad breakup, but gives him one minute to prove he’s serious. Matt shows Rose the couple selfie from their first meeting and asks if she still has the plush bear. Rose is moved and they start a relationship. Matt writes Rose a song, she stars in the music video. All manner of good times are had. One day, Rose lands a big series dream role in Europe. She tells Matt she made time for his video, so he agrees to make time for her. Matt continues with music, but also veers into also producing and videos. Rose’s series role lands her a part in a huge franchise. Careers prove dominant. Things boil over in a phone argument where they blame each other for the situation.
10 years later. Matt and Rose are settled with their own families. They meet at a small awards show and catch up. Rose is wrapping up the huge franchise, but is contracted for a final film. She pulls strings to get Matt a small, but key part. He even fights for it. He gets the part and the film is a hit. Now they want to work more together. Their spouses are suspicious, tabloids go wild, one of Rose’s former flings publishes a tell-all, and the photos Matt took of Rose from their first day are used in deepfakes. They struggle with the controversies as their professional and personal lives are rocked with each step. Matt admits publically that their previous relationship started with a fling three years earlier than they initially announced to clear the tell-all rumors. Yet new rumors now abound. Matt and Rose’s reborn perfect image of each other is shattered.
Matt meets April after 17 years. She’s suffered an ectopic pregnacy and can’t bear children. She tells him nostalgia is idealistic, doesn’t make sense, but one’s path in life must. He thanks her for the honest insight and they part with their past bitterness gone.
Matt and Rose realize the memories of their relationship are idealistic, a mashup of their best moments and that’s the magic. It’s all in the past for good but that’s why and how it’s all so perfect. Matt and Rose return to their families, but stay on good terms.
Over Times Square, two billboards hang: Matt the guitar player and Rose the top actress in an ad.
They’re as together as they’ll ever be.
