After a high-ranking athlete is told she suffers from hearing loss, She must learn to navigate through her new “Normal” while experiencing all high school has to offer.
SYNOPSIS:
Sunny Southern California is the home to one of Elmore High School's talented athletes, Ivy Walker. She has a tight grip on life as she enters High school with high expectations until it all unravels when she is sent to her new audiologist, who informs her that she suffers from hearing loss and introduces her to the world of hearing aids. But it’s okay because they come in different colors, right? WRONG. High school is about trendsetting, a super active social life, and basketball, in Ivy’s case. Basically, there is a whole package you need to survive and thrive in High school; that’s what Ivy thought. To Ivy, this felt like her world had just ended. What did she do to deserve this? Why now? How will she explain this to other people? Those aren’t exactly encouraging questions, but they’re completely natural. Ivy struggles to believe there is a bright side to her story. With the help of her loved ones, friends, and hilarious encounters, she is shown otherwise; she can have the school experience she dreamed of, and she can still be a top athlete.
Ivy’s support system is strong but far from ordinary: Ivy’s mom, Julie Walker, will do anything to show her kids how much she loves them; this includes watching Ivy’s games in disguise. This brings us to another fun factor: Julie happens to be pretty famous, thanks to hosting the most-watched daytime television show. Although her career surrounds her with the most recent trends and fads, she can’t seem to use it to connect with her teenage kids. There’s not a social media dance or challenge Ivy or Cameron wants to join her for. Then there’s Coach Jerry, who isn’t really a coach, more like an aspiring marine biologist. He can spew fish facts like a search engine, occasionally refers to his students as different aquatic animals, and his basketball knowledge is minimal. Coach Jerry’s favorite place would be the ocean. However, he doesn’t know how to swim, and most weekends, he settles for frequent visits to the aquarium until he gets banned, of course. Somewhere in the middle of that, Ivy finds comfort in him as a coach; he will rely heavily on Ivy throughout the season to create plays, bring the team together, and even help him live his dream. Many question how he even got this job, but one thing for sure is his impact on Ivy. He may not have all the answers, but he is willing to help Ivy find them. At school, wherever you find Ivy, you can find Max and Kennedy, her two best Friends. Kennedy and Ivy have known each other since their diaper days. Kennedy, aka Kenny, is a great friend but a bit opposite of Ivy; Kenny is a girly girl who thrives on fashion and confidence. Max found his way into the group a little later; he’s got a taste for trouble and an adventurous heart. This trio is a recipe for a golden friendship.
