Jaxon, a socially phobic podcaster who prefers observing life from behind a microphone, impulsively adopts a sleepy support puppy named Chaos. When the puppy wakes up and becomes exactly what his name promises—nonstop mayhem—Jaxon rushes back to the pet store to return him.

Instead, he walks straight into Angeline, a brilliant and relentless pet therapist secretly running an undercover sting to expose pet stores sedating animals to make them easier to sell. Angeline sees Jaxon as the perfect witness. Jaxon sees Angeline as the perfect person to take the puppy off his hands. Reluctantly, they strike a deal.

As the pair hit the road cross-dressed to gather evidence, their uneasy partnership slowly turns into something neither of them wants to acknowledge. But their investigation takes a bizarre turn when a shrewd exotic-animal breeder named Gene hijacks Angeline's sting and kidnaps them. Gene is making a film about curing his heartbroken chimpanzee and needs Angeline’s expertise—while Jaxon is taken along by mistake, still in disguise.

Trapped inside Gene’s aviary with the lovesick chimp, Jaxon and Angeline are forced into each other’s space—and into confronting the emotional connection they both resist. When they escape and rescue the chimp’s mate from a nearby breeding farm, their chaotic adventure brings the sting operation to an explosive close.

But once the dust settles, Jaxon retreats back into the safety of his old life—until he realizes the one thing he misses more than quiet is Angeline… and even Chaos. Now both of them must decide whether to remain safely apart or risk the uncertainty of choosing each other.
