When Kendra, a conservative, romantasy-reading lawyer accidentally conjures her magical, fae, sword-wielding "book boyfriend" Lash, into her living room after she ends a bad relationship, they are both forced to confront problematic personal choices that could have an impact on their worlds. As their relationship grows from quasi-hostility to friendship to love, Lash is forced to change his views of humans as weak and "lesser" than the fae, while Kendra must claim her suppressed "badass" self and step up when unhinged immigration agents threaten the person she loves.
SYNOPSIS:
After Kendra Cooper (mid-30’s), a rising corporate lawyer, dumps her overly ambitious right-wing boyfriend, she treats herself to a soothing bath and a spicy book during an intense storm. Then her life gets turned upside down when she has a “magical orgasm” just as lightning hits, and her favorite book boyfriend, Lash--a tall, tatted-up dark and gorgeous fae warrior in armor and an arsenal of sharp weapons--turns up in her living room. She manages to convince him that she’s not a witch, and they work out an agreement that she will help him with his “quest” then send him back to his world, solution in hand. The problem is that he doesn’t know he’s a book character, she already knows the answer to his problem (it’s in the book) and she suspects that the only way to send him back home is for them to hook up. Kendra learns quickly that while one might fantasize about a book boyfriend, the reality of introducing a powerful magical being (whose magic doesn’t work in this world) into 21st Century Northern Virginia can be challenging. What they don’t plan on is interference by an angry ex-boyfriend with political clout, unleashed immigration agents, and falling in love.
