After his mother's tragic death at the hands of his abusive father, a ten-year-old boy finds hope and purpose through a disgraced ex-boxer who becomes his coach and father figure, training him not just for the ring, but for life, as they chase an Olympic dream neither thought possible.
SYNOPSIS:
Punch Kid is Rocky meets Forrest Gump with a dash of inspiration from the boxing beginnings of Muhammed Ali, George Foreman, Mike Tyson and his trainer Cus D’Amato.
After his bike is stolen, 10-year-old Jimmy Duncan meets Gus, a disgraced boxer who becomes his coach and father figure. When Jimmy witnesses his mother’s murder by his abusive father, he’s torn between love and rage. Adopted by Gus, Jimmy trains for eight years to become a champion, unaware that Gus, hiding a terminal illness, is pushing him toward a final dream: Olympic gold.
Punch Kid is a powerful coming-of-age drama centred on Jimmy Duncan, a ten-year-old boy living in the emotional wreckage of a home where love and violence collide. Deeply loved by his mother but tormented by his abusive father, Jimmy’s life is shaped by fear, until a stolen bicycle leads him to an unexpected mentor: Gus, a former boxing champion with a shattered past of his own.
Gus sees something in Jimmy, something raw, something worth saving, and takes him under his wing. What begins as boxing lessons soon becomes a bond deeper than blood, as Gus becomes the father figure Jimmy desperately needs.
But tragedy strikes when Jimmy witnesses the unthinkable: his father murdering his mother. Faced with overwhelming grief and anger, Jimmy must choose between repeating his father's violent path or embracing the lessons of discipline, compassion, and resilience that Gus offers.
Over the next eight years, Gus raises Jimmy, taking him from one life lesson to another, helping him to become what Gus could never be, an Olympic boxing champion. But Gus is hiding a terminal illness and a secret agenda, pushing Jimmy harder with every step, hoping to secure his future before time runs out.
Punch Kid is a story of second chances, the families we choose, and the fight it takes to break free from the past. It’s a journey about turning pain into power, and finding strength in the people who believe in us when we can’t yet believe in ourselves.

I really like the concept and title, @Mario! I think you have a solid logline except for the last part. I think "so he doesn't follow in his father's abusive footsteps" would sound better.
