There he must fight his way back to the competition circuit, but to stay sane when the presence haunting the town turns its sights on him.
SYNOPSIS:
Mark is an American Rally Association driver and World Rally Championship hopeful who has carried his family’s future on his shoulders since he turned pro 10 years ago. After a crash kills his brother/co-driver Kyle and subsequent tests find a nonpunitive amount of alcohol and drugs in his system, Mark’s father Chip sends him to their family’s wooded property in Wyoming to get his head right and his skills razor sharp again.
On his first lap around the makeshift racetrack through the forest, Mark learns why his father refuses to visit: their property borders the abandoned mine which collapsed and killed his mother 25 years ago. Mark’s aunt/crew chief Heidi is called back to the circuit to help Chip, leaving Mark to slowly spiral, beginning with nightmares, apathy towards his driving, and neglectfully maintaining the property.
Mark learns the town’s been hanging on by a thread for the last 150 years and most residents now live almost completely off the reliably-unreliable grid. At a raucous party, he upsets a group of violent locals who die chasing him home, and his nightmares become so vivid he questions whether he’s been dreaming or not and how safe/alone he actually is.
Finally, Mark is called back to the circuit to be his father’s co-driver, but his dreams and fears continuously intensify until there’s no question there’s something else is in the car with them.
