When an aspiring female R& B and Jazz singer realizes that fame and having a man don't heal childhood trauma, she returns home to Livingston, Illinois to heal from her past and finally open her heart to experiencing true love.
SYNOPSIS:
In Act 1, we meet Nicolette, a 10-year-old sassy girl living in Livingston, Illinois. Nicolette dreams of becoming a famous singer, but not the gospel singer her grandmother, Nana, wants her to be. Then, Nicolette meets Eddie, a new neighbor who has family issues of his own. Eddie and Nicolette develop a deep bond. But, shortly after Eddie's and Nicolette's newfound friendship, a stranger sexually assaults Nicolette in a cabin. Although we don't see the violent act, this experience changes Nicolette, as we see in Act 2.
In Act 2, Nicolette is now a Hampton University student living in the same city as her estranged father. Nicolette is frustrated, timid, and withdrawn, a far stretch from her childhood personality. Monica, her best friend since grade school, attends the same college, and one day, Monica introduces Nicolette to two women who work for Nathaniel, an unethical club owner looking for new talent. Desperate to become somebody, Nicolette agrees to audition for Nathaniel and becomes one of his club singers and one of his side women. Marquis, a down-on-his-luck talent manager, is there the night Nicolette auditions but doesn't save her from Nathaniel's claws until several months later. Marquis introduces Nicolette to Terrance, a famous music producer who owns Entertainment Records. On the same day, she receives a contract with Entertainment Record, Marquis hits Nicolette. Marquis continues to abuse Nicolette, cheats on her, and spends all of her money
In Act 3, Nicolette miscarriages stands up to Marquis and returns home to heal. Finally, she gets her chance at true love and the opportunity to recreate a new path of success.
Nicolette is one of the millions of women's stories who suffered significant childhood life events that often deter women from fulfilling their dreams. However, Nicolette shows that trauma doesn't define you, and forgiving and finding your way back home is possible. Nicolette is approximately a two-hour Feature Family Drama with some violence implications. Comps include Sparkle and What’s Love Got to Do with It.
