SERENITY
By Mathews Lehlongwane

GENRE: Mystery, Fantasy
LOGLINE: When a hard-nosed patriarch dies, he awakens in purgatory — foul-mouthed, unfiltered, and still fighting the system. Guided by a sardonic celestial handler, he’s forced to confront his family’s fractured legacy and his own spiritual corruption before he can earn his crossing into serenity.

SYNOPSIS:

A self-made businessman and unrepentant control freak, dies suddenly during a moment of earthly pleasure, he wakes up in a place that looks suspiciously like a municipal waiting room run by angels with clipboards. It isn’t Heaven, Hell, or Earth – it’s a spiritual holding zone where every soul must account for the mess it left behind. Still armed with his boardroom arrogance and blue-collar slang, Jozi fights against celestial protocol and insists that he’s earned a first-class seat to paradise, however, the bureaucratic angel assigned to his case isn’t interested in excuses. To move forward, Jozi must revisit the scenes of his life — the marriage he neglected, the children he wounded and the compromises that bought him wealth but could have very well cost him his soul. Each flashback is a round in a metaphysical boxing match between pride and conscience. As the memories replay, Jozi begins to recognise how his fear of failure turned into emotional cruelty, how love hardened into possession and how success became his idol. The afterlife becomes his classroom and every lesson demands humility. When he finally learns that serenity isn’t granted but earned through acceptance, Jozi faces a final test: to forgive himself and to ask for forgiveness from the very people he once ruled. Whether he finds peace or remains trapped in limbo depends on whether he can surrender the one thing he never let go of — control.
