SYNOPSIS:
With so much crime, hate and violence in the world, Father Schilling has begun to question not only his faith but his worth.
PILOT – Thou Shall Not Kill
Father Jacob learns that his good friend and fellow-priest is abusing young children and when it looks like his friend is going to escape justice Father Jacob knows what he must do.
Episode I – Penance
Father Jacob has killed his best friend and although he should feel guilty, he doesn’t. He has made a difference, and more importantly, has gotten away with it. Soon he falls back into his daily routine until a serial rapist enters the confessional. Father Jacob tries to convince the man to turn himself in, but when the man refuses, Father Jacob takes action.
Episode II – Confession Is Good for the Soul
Father Jacob’s sister pays him a visit and immediately knows that something is different about him. The more his sister pushes for answers, the more Father Jacob wants to tell her and cleanse his soul. He struggles with telling her the truth but he cannot. He begs God’s forgiveness and vows never to take a life again.
Episode III – Forgive Me, Father, For I Know What I Must Do
Father Jacob’s sister is returning home from her visit with him when she is brutally killed by three gang members. A backwards collar gains Father Jacob access to the dark seedy side of gang life, but the collar soon comes off and there’s hell to pay.
Episode IV – Thou Shall Not Bear False Witness
Homicide Detective Peter Harris, a devote atheist, is putting the pieces together and suspects that Father Jacob knows more than he is saying about the mysterious deaths in his community.
Episode V – An Angel in Wolf’s Clothing (part 1)
Detective Harris accidentally reveals information about a drug dealer to Father Jacob. Father Jacob doesn’t give it another thought until one of his alter boys dies from an overdose. Father Jacob follows the drug dealer, secretly building a case against him with the intention bringing the drug dealer down with an anonymous tip. Father Jacob witnesses the drug dealer killing his own girlfriend.
Episode VI – An Angel in Wolf’s Clothing (part 2)
Detective Harris receives the anonymous tip about the drug dealer and decides to investigate the matter while off duty until he can verify the facts. The drug dealer takes Harris hostage and tortures him. The end is near for Harris until Father Jacob steps in and saves the day. Even though Harris owes his life to Father Jacob, he is still suspicious of him. The two men become friends.
Episode VII – Cast the First Stone
Father Jacob receives a black mail letter in the mail. If he doesn’t pay the blackmailer off or if he tells anyone, a bomb will explode during Sunday Mass. Jacob considers confessing his crimes by turning himself in. He even goes to Detective Harris for help but neglects to mention his involvement with the issue. Harris secretly follows Father Jacob when he goes to pay off the blackmailer using Church funds. Harris is forced to shoot the suspect. The suspect dies just before he could tell Harris about the vigilante priest.
Episode VIII – The Other Side
Father Jacob is shot while being mugged. He has an incredible near-death experience that will change his life forever.
Episode IX - Temptation
Father Jacob goes on vacation where he meets a woman who falls in love in with him. She commits suicide after learning he’s a priest.
Episode X – Crisis of Faith
He has put the past behind him. He has asked God for forgiveness and he has forgiven himself. During Sunday Mass, a man takes the church hostage. Father Jacob puts himself in harms way to save the others. Harris, who would never step foot in a Church, saves the day and experiences a divine intervention that makes him believe in God.
Episode XI - Enlightenment
Harris seeks spiritual guidance from Father Jacob. Harris wants to leave the force to pursue a more meaningful life. Jacob explains to him how all life is meaningful if it is in service of others. Father Jacob then hears a confession that is so horrific, he is compelled to take action, even if it cost him his soul.
Episode XII – Man is not God
Father Jacob has a mental breakdown and is institutionalized. He is haunted by each of his victims and then is confronted by the Devil.
