A Comedy/Horror Mash-Up

SYNOPSIS:

We meet the Smiths as they are leaving Motel 9 on the last stay of their cross-country trip. Just as they pull away, the cleaning crew discovers a grisly murder scene in the room next to where the family was staying.

The scene shifts to the Smith home where we find Don in his den. The room is filled with movie memorabilia from horror films. He is watching a YouTube video of a TV Broadcast about the murder that happened where they were staying. It reports that it is another in a series of killings by the “Room Service Slayer” who leaves chocolates on the eyes of his victims. His daughter Vicki interrupts him and asks what he is watching. He does not let her see and abruptly leaves, taking his computer with him.

Vicki finds the video herself and discovers the at the motel they were staying at. She is suspicious of her father. She shows her brother and Kevin agrees with her. Their father is a serial killer!

The two kids show their mother, Sharon, the video and question her about the rest of the murders. They have done their research and found several locations of the killings coincide with all of the places they had stayed during their last vacation.

They ask their mother if previous murders line up with other trips that she and her husband have taken together in the past, and she tells them that they do.

The kids search their father’s computer for any other evidence that would link him to the crimes and discover nothing on it but a lot of nude candid pictures of both of their parents.

They work in tandem with their mother and gain entrance into the locked basement while Don is away at a meeting and Sharon is at work. They also find a secret room behind a closet filled with film costumes. It looks like it is used to clean up after the murders and has an apothecary safe which may be being used to store mementos of the killings.

Vicki calls her mother to “Facetime” what she is seeing in the “murder room.” Just as she is about to finish, she and Kevin hear that their father has returned home.

Don discovers that the basement is unlocked and heads downstairs. He is almost about to find the kids hiding in the closet when the doorbell rings. It is the police who have been called about a disturbance.

The kids give the police the idea to search the basement. The cops search, “fanboying” at the props, but ultimately decide they have seen enough and leave.

Don is interrogating the kids in the kitchen when Sharon arrives home. She surprisingly shoots Vicki and Kevin with tranquilizer darts. Then she surprises Don and does the same to him.

The kids wake up to find that their parents have locked themselves in the basement and have challenged them to a game of movie trivia. Sharon has loaded up the house with cameras, microphones, and explosives. Vicki and Kevin will be asked a series of questions that will lead them to clues hidden around the house that will incriminate them in the crimes rather than their parents.

If Vicki and Kevin can answer three questions before the time runs out, their parents will turn themselves into the police who are on their way and, if they don’t answer a question correctly Vicki will cut off one of Don’s fingers.

If the kids try to tell the police the truth about Sharon and Don, they will blow up the house, taking all the evidence and their family with it. The children solve the questions in time, through a tense series of hide and go-seek that involves several film props, only to find that their parents have one last challenge that Vicki must face alone while Kevin waits outside for his aunt and uncle.

Vicki enters the basement to face her parents only to be asked by them to take one final terrible, and fatal, task.
