While hiding out in a North Carolina town and working as a carpenter, Fin, a disgruntled elf, meets his match in Hope, a little girl with Autism. Their unlikely friendship leads to Fin’s redemption and to his understanding the true meaning of Christmas.
SYNOPSIS:
Fin is a disgruntled, loner. He is “little person” with a big chip on his shoulder. He just wants to be left alone, but people are drawn to him. He lives in garage apartment fixer upper and has made a deal with Mr. Levi, the owner, to live rent free while he fixes up the place. Fin is well known in town to have magical carpentry talent. Mr. Levi also owns other properties that he wants Fin to work on. This is where Fin meets his match in Hope, an incredibly bright, seven-year-old with autism. She too has a sizeable chip on her shoulder and just wants to be left alone. She’s tired of being picked on and treated differently. Fin discovers that Hope does not believe in Santa Clause and that HE partly the cause of her disdain of all things Christmas. You see, Fin is an elf who left Santa’s workshop and is hiding out in a small, North Carolina town. During a brief conversation with Hope, Fin believes that because he selfishly built certain gifts and never shared his techniques with other elves, the one special gift that Hope wished for never got built or delivered. What Fin doesn’t understand is that Hope had asked her father, a U.S. Marine, for a dollhouse, and he promised that they would build it together. But Hope’s father never came home from his last deployment. She doesn’t understand why her father let her down. Fin’s guilt over the wrong he has done to Hope — and likely to other children around the world — drives him to make a difference in Hope’s life and help her reconcile an enormous loss. The problem is, Fin must learn to put his sizeable ego aside. What Fin discovers is that redemption is the true meaning of Christmas and the rewards of giving far outweigh the joy of receiving.
