In Imperial Russia, a nobleman and a serf risk everything for a love that defies class and empire—while, centuries later in Stalin’s Moscow, a young historian uncovering their forbidden marriage finds herself entangled in a deadly struggle with power, truth, and survival
SYNOPSIS:
In the grandeur of 18th-century Russia, Count Nikolai Sheremetev defies his noble birth when he falls in love with Praskovia, a gifted serf whose voice enchants the empire. Their secret romance blossoms into a marriage that challenges the rigid boundaries of class, faith, and power. But in a world where serfs are property and scandal is a weapon, their love is as dangerous as it is transcendent—forcing them to choose between passion and survival.
Two centuries later, in Stalin’s Moscow of the 1930s, Natalia Sharkovia, a young historian and filmmaker, uncovers evidence of the Sheremetev–Praskovia union. Fascinated by the courage of their defiance, she seeks to bring their story into the light. Yet in an era when the truth itself is a crime, Natalia’s research puts her in grave danger. As she is drawn deeper into the secrets of the past, she discovers that telling the lovers’ story could cost her her freedom—or her life.
Spanning two eras of Russian history, Russian is a sweeping tale of forbidden love, truth, and resilience. It weaves together the passion of a serf and a nobleman who dared to dream of equality, and the peril of a young woman who risks everything to keep their story alive under a regime built on silence.
