Kate hustles electronics and liquor to make ends meet while avoiding dangers from both state-backed militias and criminal elements. The family’s fragile stability is upended when their home is destroyed, forcing them into a refugee-like existence. Along the way, they encounter figures like Grant, a survivalist with a hidden past, and Sage, a young man torn between military service and personal freedom. Kate must balance survival with her growing attraction to Grant, the challenges of raising a queer son in a hostile environment, and Lina’s dangerous fascination with a young militiaman.
