CHELSEA PLACE

CHELSEA PLACE
By Sandhi Santini

GENRE: Romance, Drama
LOGLINE: Inspired by the true love story of the writer and her late husband, the legendary 1990s “king of nightlife,” CHELSEA PLACE follows a gifted Black singer who falls for a charismatic Italian nightclub king—only to find their intoxicating romance caught in the crosshairs of his ruthless ex-wife, whose toxic divorce battle threatens to destroy them both inside the seductive underworld of 1990s Manhattan nightlife.

SYNOPSIS:

Set against the neon-drenched, seductive world of Manhattan nightlife in 1990, CHELSEA PLACE follows the electrifying connection between Giancarlo Santorini, a charismatic Italian nightclub impresario in his 50s, and Shadiya Simone, a brilliant young Black vocalist and Howard University graduate whose extraordinary talent changes the trajectory of his legendary piano lounge—and his life. Captivated by Shadiya’s raw acoustic brilliance at her audition, Giancarlo makes her his headline performer. What begins as a powerful creative partnership quickly develops into an unexpected, deeply passionate romance between two people from profoundly different worlds. But their love comes at a price. Giancarlo’s high-society wife, Barbara, is consumed by jealousy and the threat Shadiya represents to her marriage, social standing, and financial security. As their increasingly bitter divorce erupts into a battle over Giancarlo’s nightclub empire, Barbara wages a ruthless campaign to destroy everything he has built—using court injunctions, frozen accounts, corporate pressure, and the machinery of the establishment to shut down his club and tear the lovers apart. Music-driven and steeped in the glamour, danger, and grit of 1990s New York, CHELSEA PLACE follows Giancarlo and Shadiya across years of romance, artistic discovery, triumph, betrayal, loss, and resilience. At its heart is a mature love story between two adults who find in each other not only passion, but a profound creative and emotional partnership. Based on a real-life romance, CHELSEA PLACE is ultimately a story about the power of love to defy the rules imposed by age, race, class, and social convention—and the extraordinary price two people may have to pay when they choose each other anyway.
