DON'T LEAVE THE HOUSE
By Ryan Peverly

GENRE: Thriller, Horror
LOGLINE:

Six friends barricaded in a house during a mysterious crisis face an impossible choice when one of them returns after being missing for hours. NIGHT OF THE LIVING DEAD meets THE THING with more psychology.

SYNOPSIS:

Six friends have been barricaded in a house for twelve days during a mysterious crisis that has plunged their city into perpetual darkness. When their supplies run dangerously low, Trey volunteers to venture outside for food and medication for his girlfriend Chloe's anxious mother, Regina. Despite the group's fears about the reported "vampire outbreak" and three-hour exposure limits, Trey leaves with promises to return within the deadline. When he fails to come back on time, paranoia fractures the group as they debate whether to let him in if he returns - or assume he's been turned.

The friends retreat to separate areas of the house, each spiraling into their own obsessions: Jordan drinks and sharpens wooden stakes, Lexy researches conspiracy theories, Jess compulsively organizes supplies, and Chloe self-medicates with anxiety pills while video-calling her mother. During one call, Chloe witnesses Regina kill a neighbor on camera, revealing that Regina has transformed into something inhuman. When Trey finally returns hours later, injured and claiming Regina wasn't home, the group subjects him to traditional vampire tests - mirrors, garlic, crosses - which he passes. Despite inconsistencies in his story, Chloe convinces them to let him inside, though doubt lingers about what really happened at Regina's house.

After Trey showers, Chloe discovers bite marks on his neck, but before she can warn the others, her excessive pill consumption and exposure to the fear around her triggers her own transformation into a fear-feeding energy vampire. She attacks and turns the other friends, who merge into a grotesque flesh creature in the basement. When Trey discovers the carnage, the transformed Chloe and the merged creature try to force him to join them, promising an end to all fear and pain. Instead, Trey realizes these aren't traditional vampires but beings who feed on terror and have traded their humanity to escape emotional suffering. He defeats them not through violence but by rejecting their offer and embracing the pain of being human - declaring that fear, anxiety, and heartbreak are what make life meaningful. The creatures implode, unable to survive in the presence of someone who accepts rather than flees from human emotion.
