A historical limited series based on true events of WWII: Frank Sutton, a British officer born in Austria and of Jewish origin, is tasked with interrogating some of the most senior Nazi officials responsible for one of Europe’s worst civilian massacres, the “Fosse Ardeatine”. His findings will feed into the Allied case-building for the postwar trials - if he can overcome distrust, manipulation and political forces determined to bury the truth.

SYNOPSIS:

ORDERS FOLLOWED is a 6-episode historical limited series with a strong psychological focus and a serialized structure. Each episode follows Frank Sutton as he interrogates a different Nazi official, piece by piece uncovering the chain of responsibility behind the Fosse Ardeatine massacre. After fighting in Italy and witnessing atrocities firsthand, in 1945 Frank is assigned to Cinecittà - then a refugee camp and temporary detention site for Nazis - where, under the supervision of Colonel Passingham and Captain Middleton, he confronts Röttiger, Dollmann, Harster, Wolff, and Kappler. Their testimonies reveal successive layers of denial, blame-shifting, bureaucratic cruelty, and political protection. The story engine is the clash between truth and self-exoneration, between justice and the emerging geopolitical interests of the postwar world, and Frank’s personal struggle to make sense of his new identity.
