SYNOPSIS:

In Vain is a sci-fi action drama set in a near-future world upended by a revolutionary energy source known as the donny. Once hailed as a solution to humanity’s energy crisis, it has instead unleashed chaos and instability across the globe.

At the center of the story is Shane, an experimental super soldier created through donny technology. Haunted by the murder of his family, Shane is driven by a singular obsession: to kill the anarchist known as the Artist, whose ideology he believes sparked the violence that destroyed his life.

Shane’s path crosses with Mikaela, a sharp-witted woman in debt to a violent gang, who takes him hostage in a desperate escape. Their uneasy alliance slowly deepens into something more, as Mikaela challenges Shane’s thirst for revenge and draws him into a larger mission—exposing a secret government AI initiative called Operation Unity, designed to police humanity under total control.

Meanwhile, General Crawford, Shane’s estranged mother and architect of Operation Unity, launches a pursuit to eliminate him before he can reveal the truth. As Mikaela and Shane grow closer, they’re confronted by Crawford—but strike a deal for Shane to take out the Artist to avoid mutually assured destruction.

Shane infiltrates the Artst's compound but in a twist, the Artist springs a trap and captures Shane. He proposes using a global EMP to shut down all donny tech, including Unity, and Shane agrees to protect the device while it charges. But things unravel fast. Shane is manipulated into a massacre, shown evidence that Crawford ordered his family’s murder, and swayed into believing he must become a weapon against those in power.

As the EMP nears activation, Mikaela uncovers the Artist’s true plan: to seize power in the aftermath. She races to warn Shane—who now must decide whether to finish the job or risk letting the world fall into new hands.

In a final confrontation, Shane turns against both Crawford and the Artist, sacrificing himself to trigger the EMP and reset the world. Mikaela survives to carry forward a new beginning.
