GROWING UP: PLAY TO WIN

GROWING UP: PLAY TO WIN
By Cynthia Garbutt

GENRE: Family
LOGLINE:

The challenges of Meg - an outgoing, curious, and unconventional girl, who's from first-generation Latin American parents of diverse socio-economic and religious backgrounds, mixed-race, growing up in The South during the 1960s and 70s.

SYNOPSIS:

Based on my life events and experiences, growing up in an immigrant family, as a girl, in New Orleans. In the grips of integration and gender separation on the playground.

It's the first day at Meghan's brand-new school as an outsider in the first grade. She doesn't think twice about joining in boy's games or even the consequences and embarrassment that result from doing so or the need to adjust to her new surroundings. If you don't play to win - why play at all.
