What Did Dr. Watson Really Do After Sherlock Holmes died?

TONE:
Mystery, Steampunk Sherlock Holmes meets C.S.I.

SYNOPSIS:

In an alternate 1890s United Kingdom where powered airships and steamcars exist, and the 1850s War of Indian Independence ended with India as part of the United Kingdom, The Great Detective Sherlock Holmes and his friend Dr. John H. Watson, M.D., investigate crimes…until Holmes and his archenemy Prof. Moriarty both apparently fall to their mutual doom over Reichenbach Falls. Two years later, Watson is still reeling from the deaths of not only his closest friend but also his wife Mary, who died in childbirth along with his unborn daughter.

Just-promoted Scotland Yard Inspector Stanley Hopkins is assigned to solve a series of “Toff” (men of societal rank and station) homicides, who have all been murdered in the same grisly fashion. At the midnight scene of the latest killing, that of the Duke of Kent’s son Lord Edward, he meets Senior Constable Rahul Muhkerjee, a former medical student, and his partner Constable Harry Tybalt. Both direct his attention to the state of Lord Edward’s hands, pointing out that noblemen do not commonly have rough hands and dirt under their fingernails. Impressed by the intelligence of the young officers, Hopkins tells them to meet him the next day.

Sherlock Holmes’s older brother Mycroft, who is…something in the Home Office and employs the widowed Mrs. Bollinger to complete her late husband’s mysterious invention, asks Dr. Watson to perform the post-mortem on Lord Edward’s body, and invites Hopkins and his Constables to observe. In so doing they begin to uncover a deep conspiracy, one that could shake Britain’s aristocracy to its core….
