RAYMAR
By Atkin Korkis

GENRE: Fantasy, Drama
LOGLINE:

In a realm plagued by conflict and scarcity, the Planters of the Gardener-a secret society of rebels-strive to overthrow their respective oppressive kingdoms.

SYNOPSIS:

In the medieval world of Salzrocque, Raymar, a daring but unproven young man, driven by dreams of glory, trains relentlessly under his mentor Jorl, a seasoned assassin. Together, they are part of a fierce resistance group: the Planters of the Gardener. Their ultimate mission: overthrow the ruthless monarchy that has forsaken them all.

The town guards, bitter and underpaid, exploit the powerless civilians who, in turn, resort to thievery. Raymar, one such daring thief, steals from the guards to pay his taxes. But fate has other plans, as Raymar unknowingly gets caught up in the guards' scheme to expose thieves using baited coins, which he unwittingly passes on to a beggar.

At a secret meeting, the upper echelon of the resistance engage in a tense discussion about their most perilous mission yet: Jorl is tasked to assassinate the princess and heir to the throne, before she is whisked away to the capital to learn the ways of her family and assuredly carry on the never ending cycle of oppression. The group devises a cunning plan to reunite at a candle workshop the next day.

As Raymar and Jorl attempt to leave the village, the beggar betrays them as thieves, and the guards apprehend the duo. In a selfless act, Raymar takes the blame, allowing Jorl to leave. However, the loyal Jorl returns to save his protégé, only to be captured, while Raymar makes a daring escape to the candle workshop. With no other choice, the resistance entrusts the high-stakes mission to Raymar.

So as to go undetected, Raymar suits up as a sentry and stealthily approaches the well-guarded castle, focused and ready. There, as part of the plan, he quickly befriends one of the lookouts, who is not what Raymar was expecting… The sullen sentinel proceeds to share his own dreams and aspirations, mirroring Raymar’s. The ensuing struggle is a chaotic, visceral dance of death that leaves Raymar shaken to the core.

Having reached the princess' chamber, Raymar falters at a pivotal moment and finds himself unable to take her life as instructed. The quick-witted heir to the crown manages to convince him that assassination is not the way to change. Confused and frenzied, Raymar knocks her unconscious and tries to escape, only to face the king on the bridge leading out of the royal tower. A ferocious battle ensues, culminating in Raymar accidentally slaying the king before the guards seize him.

Five days later, Raymar, battered and tortured, languishes in a dungeon cell. The Princess (now the newly-crowned queen) presents him with a tantalizing offer: if he betrays the resistance, she will not only spare his life, but also grant him castle roof. As Raymar grapples with this momentous decision, he can hear fellow prisoners chanting his name as a hero for slaying the king.

Raymar feels like he has achieved the exhilarating glory he craved, but at what cost? He must now confront the devastating consequences of his actions and the potential loss of his very identity.

The heart-pounding, adrenaline-fueled “Raymar” presents an epic tale of duty, morality, and the true price of heroism in the treacherous world of medieval times.
