When a death row inmate's fate hangs in the balance, a lawyer's supernatural gift becomes both her greatest asset and her most crippling liability."
SYNOPSIS:
Vangeline, a young and ambitious Creole lawyer, takes on her first major case as a criminal defense attorney: defending a death row inmate. As she investigates, she begins to experience supernatural sensations due to an inherited gift that connects her to the suffering of the dying. Her godmother reveals that this gift is a curse that cannot be cured, only managed, and it's slowly consuming her.
Through her gift, Vangeline eventually discovers that her client is indeed terminally ill, a fact that could potentially save his life. She makes a bold decision to reveal her secret to her client, hoping to secure a life-saving medical transfer. However, her client chooses to end his life rather than face execution, leaving Vangeline devastated.
The case is further complicated by a ruthless private investigator who will stop at nothing to secure a conviction, using psychological warfare and threats against Vangeline's loved ones. Although his schemes ultimately backfire, leading to his arrest, the emotional and physical toll on Vangeline is too great. Haunted by her curse and her failure, she retreats from criminal law, holding onto a fragile hope that she might one day find redemption and break free from her supernatural burden.
