In a future where humanity is split between the enhanced and the unenhanced, a desperate father, part of the oppressed labor class, risks everything in a daring plan to secure a better life for his daughter, only to confront the harsh reality of their society and a personal revelation that challenges his very perception of freedom and sacrifice.
SYNOPSIS:
In a bleak, dystopian future, society is starkly divided. The Enhanced, equipped with advanced technology, rule over the Freeborn, who live under constant surveillance and control. Among the Freeborn is Lamont, a high-level government official, who represents the oppressive regime of the Enhanced.
The short film opens in the heart of this divided world, focusing on Ben, a former cyborg soldier. He toils away in the Factory, a massive labor camp where unenhanced humans like him are condemned to work under harsh conditions. His life is a monotonous cycle of labor and survival, but his spirit remains unbroken, fueled by the love for his family - his wife Karys and his young daughter Maggie.
Ben's world is upended when he discovers that Maggie is to be taken away for enhancement, a fate he desperately wants to protect her from. Driven by a father's love, Ben devises a plan to escape the Factory and save his daughter from a life he believes will strip her of her humanity.
The narrative follows Ben and his family as they navigate the treacherous path to freedom. Their journey is fraught with danger, as they must evade the watchful eyes of the Enhanced and their enforcers. Every step is a gamble in this high-stakes escape, with the omnipresent threat of the Factory looming over them.
In a world where every move is monitored and every moment fraught with peril, Ben's resolve is put to the ultimate test. The climax of the film is both tense and emotionally charged, as Ben makes a harrowing sacrifice for the sake of his daughter's future.
"Freeborn" is a story of resilience and rebellion, set against the backdrop of a society where technology dictates the terms of humanity. It's a poignant exploration of the lengths a father will go to for his child, and a gripping portrayal of the struggle for freedom in a world where it's the highest luxury.
