After a decade away, strait-laced Richard Wicks reluctantly returns to his hometown and is given a week to secure his brother’s bail by selling off a weed supply before the city’s first dispensary opens, setting off a series of events that unveils uncomfortable truths about the changing neighborhood. 

SYNOPSIS:

The year is 2018 and marijuana is on the verge of legalization in the gentrifying neighborhood of Homestead. Bookish Richard Wicks reluctantly returns home unemployed, broke, and looking for work. Tasked by his incarcerated brother to secure his bail, Francis, Richard has one week to sell off a significant weed supply before a corporate dispensary opens its doors. Along the way, Richard teams up with street-smart Brandon and rekindles his relationship with his ex-girlfriend, Darla, who is involved with an MLM beauty brand called "Pataya," which Richard uses to hide the drugs from the police. However, Richard's journey takes a dark turn when he discovers the true reason behind his brother's arrest: Francis was dealing heroin to keep their mother, Maribel’s, struggling restaurant afloat after a new landlord raised the rent. With no more weed left to sell, Richard delves into the heroin trade to try to secure his brother’s bail and now his family’s financial future. He faces further conflict with two detectives, Wendy Larson and Darrell Rutherford, who are compiling evidence against Francis. Richard is then used as bait by the detectives to get Francis to flip. A once innocuous task of selling weed now turns into life or death when Richard meets up with the local heroin supplier, Bozzwell, and the entire fate of their family comes to a head.
