Based on the book The Velveteen Rabbit, it features some differences from the book and other adaptations I had seen. But it deserves a film. I hope it will be a Disney film.
SYNOPSIS:
VELVETEEN RABBIT MOVIE
An elderly rabbit visits his grandchildren and tells them about humans, their children, and the things they call toys that come to life when no human is watching and how some look like rabbits. Then the story of a certain toy rabbit.
A young boy named Jimmy is given many new toys including one Velveteen Rabbit, that he calls Velveteen. One night during a storm his parents give Velveteen and Jimmy calms down, at first Velveteen hates being around humans but gets some good advice from the old rocking horse gives him good advice and insight on how it’s love that makes you real. Then overtime begins to enjoy his time with Jimmy, and when Jimmy calls him real feels truly real despite what other real rabbits think or say.
The wild rabbits spend time telling him about the woods and forests as Velveteen begins to wonder but remains with Jimmy happy with him, and they have many adventures real and imaginative where Velveteen must save him when he is endangered. Then one night a criminal break into the house and hurts nanny and accidently sets fire to the nursery and Jimmy who is under the weather collapses and Velveteen sees him, goes to his rescue, and saves him but is damaged beyond repair. The other toys mourn their fallen friend as he is taken away.
Then with a few tears from Velveteen and Jimmy a fairy appears who takes him and tells him that love and courage had made him real as did Jimmy and now he will be real to others. Taking Velveteen to the other rabbits where she works her magic and turns him real, then one day while playing Jimmy notices Velveteen and sees he looks just like Velveteen when he was a toy hugs him before returning home unaware (or suspecting) it was Velveteen who had come to see him one last time before returning to the forest, thank him for turning him, and say goodbye to him. “Thanks for turning me real and I’ll always be with you, good-bye Jimmy, I love you to Jimmy,” said Velveteen.
As the young rabbits fell asleep, the Grandpa Rabbit is revealed to be Velveteen himself while checking in on Jimmy and his family from time to time never forgetting how Jimmy made him real.
