A young girl is kidnaped by a criminal who posed as a friend.

SYNOPSIS:
Karen Sheperd parents Bill and Lina Sheperd are divorced but still on good terms, they befriend Lester Clinton who is also divorced and estranged from his unfaithful wife and delinquent son. But claims to understand what they are going through and also convinces them he works for a publishing company and offers to help Karen an aspiring writer, already trusted the family agrees, and Lester offers to drive Karen to his bosses claiming they like her work and they accept.
On the day Karen is supposed to meet the publishers Lester picks her up but then kidnaps her, he tells her to call him Brad Johnson and her father and “renames” her Cindy Johnson, Karen tries to escape but to no avail. Meanwhile Bill and Lina grow worried and soon find Karen missing and alert the police. Detectives Adam Murphy and Matt Lloyd call the publishing company he works for they learn he had never been employed there and when they visit his ex-wife and son they find out he lied about them to: he was actually an abuser and they finally left him. The police and Shepards realize Lester had planned this all along and chose Karen and hope his motivation was to use her as a replacement for his family and is keeping her alive. Meanwhile Lester changes Karen’s appearance and getting a job renovation rooms in a motel, and is given a room with Karen, using the fake names he convinces the manager Irma that he is a widower and that his “wife’s death” traumatized Karen calling her Cindy. Karen tries to escape but is unsuccessful and Lester not only lies to her about Bill and Lina throwing her to the street but also abuses her. Eventually succeeds in brainwashing her into believing she is Cindy, pleased he believes that he finally has a “family” to himself to control, but his victory is short lived. After a few weeks Irma became suspicious of the “Johnsons” and felt something familiar about “Brad” then while rewatching the news and going through the newspapers recognized “Brad Johnson” as Lester Clinton and realizes “Cindy Johnson” is Karen Sheperd, and he changed he appearance but neglected to change his own either because he forgot to or was overconfident no one would find or recognize him, more focused on Karen, and alerts the authorities.
The police also realize what Lester did, and that night raid the room, and arrest Lester and rescue Karen and after some time she remembers who she really is and is reunited with her real family. When Lester tries to call out to her as “Cindy” Karen tells him off finally free, angering Lester who is sent to prison.
