A young man stalks his presumed best friend and girlfriend and goes too far with his obsession

SYNOPSIS:

MY BEST NIGHTMARE

Tanner Wilkes is a young timid and somewhat clingy youth, he eventually befriends Mitchell “Mitch” Cole but soon becomes obsessed with him, and assumes they are best friends even though Mitch’s best friend is James Tucker and eventually feels alienated when Mitch gets a girlfriend Jade Yan. Tanner has been working in a superstore handling digital photos and secretly copies Mitch’s pictures and his families and places them on a shrine. One day he offers Mitch to join him at a game but is turned down as he has a date with Jade.

Mitch goes to his place to shower and prepare, but Jade arrives early and asks if Mitch is getting ready, Tanner upset that Jade is “stealing his best friend” makes up a story that he is on a date with another girl, convincing Jade he is cheating and she leaves even though Tanner is aware Mitch is in the shower, when Mitch finds out he angrily confronts Tanner and tells him off for it, and when Tanner tries to justify his actions claiming Jade is cheating on him, and that he is only looking out for his best friend but Mitch does not believe him anymore and tells him off and that James is his best friend and has cleared things up with Jade and severs his ties to Tanner. Thangs go further downhill for Tanner when his manager Craig Fuller and his boss Lucille Emerson find out he had ordered more prints then paid for, spacing out on the job, taking over extended lunch breaks, and giving Mitch’s sister a camera for free for her birthday claiming it was store policy, she told a friend and thought it was store policy, and that is how they found out, and that Tanner almost got them in trouble for shoplifting as a result he is fired.

While looking at his pictures one last time, Tanner sees Mitch and Jade leave and decides to spy on them, using surveillance equipment and watches them have intercourse he learns that James helped them buy a house they plan to move into together and finds out they have negative thoughts of him, and that Mitch has thought he as weird for a long time. Tanner believes that James and Jade are stealing his best friend from him and ultimately snaps, he makes fake pictures of Jade making her look like a call girl and other negative things about her to make her look bad. Taking pictures of Craig and Lucille’s families and has his sister (unaware of his termination) send them to the store as a threat and when realized it leads to a police investigation on Tanner, who has meanwhile rigged James's car so that it crashes.

When Detectives Brawley and Hagan discover his obsession and evidence linking Tanner to the car crash that nearly killed James, Tanner invites a group of thugs to a cabin Jade and Mitch rented and forces her to do an illicit poses for the group and when Mitch arrives Tanner tries to make her look like a slut but Mitch knowing what is really going on, and turns on him and beats him up but is stopped by Jade, the police arrive and Tanner is arrested, and Mitch and Jade learn that James will live.

When Brawley asks why he stalked Mitch and terrorized everyone around him, Tanner in tears admits that he was trying to help his best friend Mitch but is given a restraining order and along with the jail sentence is permanently separated from Mitch for good.

It is revealed that Tanner is still serving his sentence unable to contact Mitch or his family, while Mitch and Jade get married.
