A klutzy divorced dad sneaks his terminally ill son from the hospital for an exciting campout adventure when the weather shows no mercy and police suspect a kidnapping.

SYNOPSIS:

Quinn is a klutzy divorced dad with 2 kids who now live with his remarried ex and her new, rich businessman husband. Quinn works two 10-hour shifts a week at a call center making little money and living in an apartment.

Since Quinn still loves his kids, Skye and Audrey, he tries to see them often. Skye, 10-years old, is in the hospital with a terminal illness—about which Quinn feels guilt and remorse. He wants to be with Skye but sees no way to accomplish it.

Skye wants to get Quinn to sneak him out of the hospital for a campout adventure. Quinn agrees and buys (charges) camping supplies. He creates a signal to pick up Skye and sets the plan in motion, sneaking Skye, who has saved medicine, from the hospital for a trip to the mountains.

The police and Skye’s mother and new husband think it was a kidnapping and prepare and investigate accordingly. Meanwhile high in the mountains, Skye and Quinn enjoy a fun day at the campsite. However, late afternoon thunderstorms threaten to ruin to outing. But Skye’s nurse figures out what happened and heads to the campsite.

Chased out of their tent by a bear and bad weather, Quinn and Skye retreat to the car but plug in Skye’s table to play music Skye has created—and the car battery dies. Since Skye has thrown away his pills, his health declines. With no car, Quinn begins his trek out of the mountains carrying Skye.

Quinn reaches a very swollen river; meanwhile, Skye’s nurse has arrived on the other side. Neither can reach the other. Skye’s voice enters their heads telling them to go upstream. At a tangle of trees that forms a large pond, the nurse and Quinn struggle and finally get Skye across the temporary dam. On the river bank, Quinn and the nurse learn that Skye has already died—Skye has achieved his real goal: to get out of the hospital, show his love for his dad, and give up.

The cops and rest of the family arrive at the unpassable river. Cops hike to the tangle and arrest Quinn. As the tangle breaks loose, they race back to the family where Quinn is demeaned by everyone—except Skye’s sister who hears Skye’s voice saying he wanted this.

At Skye’s funeral, Skye’s mother hears his voice saying “Forgive Quinn.” She informs the police she won’t press charges and asks that a cuffed Quinn be released.

Quinn is released and joins his ex and his daughter at Skye’s casket. The police depart.
