CIVILIAN A
By Luke Griffiths

GENRE: Thriller, Crime
LOGLINE:

In a post-pandemic London rife with corruption, two young men – FREDDIE TELL and SAB SHARMA – skirt the wrong side of the tracks. While navigating a crime- and-drug riddled society manipulated by a shadowy drug lord, Freddie unexpectedly finds himself gaining remarkable superhuman abilities that could very well overturn the status quo.

Coping with his own growing inner demons while managing a rocky personal relationship with his girlfriend, Freddie becomes a vigilante as he tries to uncover the powerful figures who may be behind his new abilities.

Freddie and Sab must clash with both the most powerful criminal in the city’s history, and a corrupt police force...all the while inspiring a faithful cult of followers to rise up against an insidious Government who have made Freddie the target of a nationwide manhunt.

SYNOPSIS:

In a familiar near-future Britain, society attempts to return to normalcy from a ravaging pandemic. Countrywide lockdown created unrest as loved ones died and family businesses shut-down. Disillusioned citizens watched Government and police abuse their power, the rich and powerful bailed-out and prospering.

And shady rumours have spread of the government using pandemic prevention research as a cover for something far sinister...

Organised crime endured. As the gang wars reached their peak, several of London’s “big players” either mysteriously disappeared, or were incarcerated by the police. Into this power vacuum stepped JEVON JACKS.

His gang having flourished, Jacks curries influence from shadowy factions within Whitehall’s elite, who naively imagine they can “control” criminal activity with their “partnership”. The loyal within the police still see themselves as protecting the populace, but too many look the other way, while a growing number are aligned with Jacks and arrogantly abuse their power for their own personal ends.

With businesses crumbling and homeless and addiction rates soaring, the young turn to crime as an only income option for supporting their families, the gangs they come-to eagerly embracing the weak and vulnerable who now owe them their “debt”.

FREDDIE TELL, our central protagonist, knows how that feels. Always struggling for money despite a half-decent upbringing and qualifications, Freddie bounced from job-to-job. And despite his best efforts, he was lured back to the illicit to help him “escape.”

When a pharmaceutical company offered early medical trials, Freddie eagerly jumped at the chance to score some cash, returning to them again later as a paid “guinea pig”. After the trial, Freddie takes what odd jobs comes his way...until his body begins to remarkably change.

Testing the limits of his powerful new gifts while becoming increasingly paranoid about who caused this change, Freddie keeps a low profile...unaware that powerful forces have been closely monitoring him since the moment he left their facility.

Freddie’s world changes after rescuing a young dealer from being killed, unintentionally gaining deeper access into the Jevon Jacks’ criminal hierarchy. In this high-pressure game, Freddie starts on a slippery personal slope...leaning again on the drugs he vowed to abstain from, both as a coping mechanism for the traumas he encounters, and to give him the false bravado to fight.

Freddie attempt to manage his powers with the help of his best friend SAB SHARMA. He sees the effects of the crimes that he becomes involved with, always questioning whether he should use his new talents to do more. As rumours spread amongst the criminal fraternity of a masked vigilante they call “The Gangman” taking down their kind, Freddie slowly works his way up the ladder towards a confrontation with Jevon Jacks...
