STRAY DOG
By Jack Sambrook

GENRE: Drama
LOGLINE:

A young drug dealer attempts to escape his crime boss uncle to pursue his passion as an author.

SYNOPSIS:

Getting closer to his 30's, Tom is starting to wonder if perhaps he's not suppose to be a drug dealer. He is a passionate story teller, with ambition to sell his novel that he's currently writing notes into his notebook for. It is that night when he questions his current situation, when a simple sale of cocaine goes wrong and a 'customer' ends up stealing his car, losing all the cocaine and the notebook he had in a side compartment.

Tom can't bring himself to tell his crime boss Uncle Ray straight away and ends up going home to sleep it off. The next day he decides to visit his Mum on his birthday, knowing he will have to go and face his Uncle after. It is here where his life changes. While at his Mum's house, he receives a call from a literary agency, requesting a second draft of his novel.

On going to his Uncle's soon after, he learns that his Uncle knows about the failed drug deal already because, in the garage, sits the two men who stole car, tied up. After confirming that these are the men that stole his car, his Uncle picks up Tom's notebook. He’s angry about the contents inside which reveals many stories about their criminal enterprises but in a narrative form and with use of different names. He tells Tom to forget a life of writing - “When you're in, you're in”. Even though he now has a chance to fulfil his dream, he accepts that he cannot become a writer.

Not too soon after, Tom experiences a heavy loss due to his Uncle’s brutality and makes the decision that this isn't a world he wants to be a part of. So he runs, far across the country. He ends up in the West of England in Cornwall, where his Dad, whom he hasn't seen in 20 years lives.

It is here where Tom attempts to have a fresh start while also building a relationship with his father and even starting a new version of his novel. His new life helps him find himself for a while, but it can only last as long as he isn't found by his Uncle.

When his Uncle turns up, Tom must take a brave new step.
