A debaucherous and oft-arrested rock star upon getting fired from his band, hatches a wild plan, out of revenge, to form a new music group with fun-loving and cantankerous senior citizens he meets at a retirement center for his court ordered community service.
SYNOPSIS:
After a wild, drug-fueled binge, running around Hollywood naked in a manic pursuit of cocaine, rock star -Jimey Zainer - is arrested and sentenced to six months' community service at a retirement home. He’s given an ankle bracelet to inhabit his substance abuse. He soon discovers on a news report that his world-famous band, The Missing Links, are firing him.
Out of revenge, he forms a new music group with some fun-loving but cantankerous seniors who live at the retirement home he’s been forced to reside in. Jimey meets the home's manager, Summer, and is immediately smitten. With the permission of Summer, Jimey books a gig at The Roxy in Hollywood. Jimey's new band is called - The Ol' Rascals.
His ex-band mates from the Missing Links, discovering that they aren't selling many tickets without Jimey, show up to sabotage Jimey with coke and booze in a limo before the show. Jimey relapses. The show ends in buffoonish disaster as an out of his mind Jimey almost gets arrested again for disorderly conduct.
His situation worsens as he realizes he in fact owes his record label 3 million dollars from repayments on his mansion and his luxurious lifestyle. As his contract stipulates, Jimey can still choose his ex-band members, but returns instead to the retirement home to makes amends with the group he betrayed. Jimey gets a huge break when invited to perform on a big TV show with his new band.
The big TV show to showcase Jimey's new band of seniors becomes an hilarious train wreck. The record label, desperately wanting Jimey to return to the Missing Links, sabotages the bands beverages with LSD. Once again the show ends in comedic disaster.
Jimey is blackmailed by the record label into performing with The Missing Links at a huge outdoor festival. Once on-stage, Jimey refuses to perform in protest before reading a letter that Summer gave him during his time working at the retirement home. His self-revelation emerges as he publicly declares the abandonment of his previously hedonistic lifestyle.
Jimey flees to Mexico to avoid an arrest warrant. The resolution emerges as the police discover that the record label set up the band to violate Jimey's probation. Jimey’s arrest warrant is rescinded and he returns to the retirement home to inform his senior citizen bandmates he wants to continue performing with The Ol' Rascals.
Jimey embraces sobriety and following his heart as keys to happiness in life. Jimey and Summer continue their attraction with being together as The Ol' Rascals take their show on the road.
