SYNOPSIS:

London, 1810. An old lady, Miss d’Eon, dies in her bed. Her friend, Mrs Cole, proceeds with dressing the body, and discovers to her astonishment that Miss d’Eon was in fact... a man. When a woman called Elise comes knocking, the true story of the deceased begins to emerge.

Through Elise’s memories, we travel back to the youth of Charles d’Eon, a prodigy from France’s minor nobility, whose only prospect in the strict hierarchical French society of the 18th century is to hire his talents for the benefits of high-ranking aristocrats. When Eon falls in love with Elise, the daughter of the austere Count d’Avallon, he knows that the only way to be allowed to marry her is to climb the social ladder.
