By Theodore Lowe

GENRE: Sci-fi, Fantasy
LOGLINE:

Attempting to travel back in time to prevent the transatlantic slave trade, a young scientist accidentally travels to the future where he must save earth from a scorched boiling point.

SYNOPSIS:

In 1951, Dr. Cornelius Gordon is the most gifted physicist of his time, practicing and researching his theories at Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). With racial tension and systematic oppression escalating in the US, Cornelius isn’t recognized for any of his work. His achievements are being overshadowed by the immoral practices by others such as Dr. George Gey, a prominent cancer and virus researcher. Angered by the times and frustrated with constantly being overlooked, Cornelius rushes the completion of his time travel device. He decides to travel back in time and stop the transatlantic slave trade from happening.

Much to the dismay of his girlfriend Cora (a young songstress) and mentee Mikey (a graduate student), Cornelius is driven to achieve this goal. He enlists the help of Herman (a jazz musician), his best friend, to see his objective through and transport both 300 years into the past. All is well until the two get separated and Cornelius lands in the year 2101, 150 years into the future. The earth is being evacuated in favor for life on Mars, but Otto the scientist leading the charge, is instructed by government officials to only transport certain people. Facing climate collapse, people have reached a melting point and are more divided than ever.

Cornelius meets Mona (promising scientist) and her team, he pleads with them to help send him back to his own timeline, so he can take credit for the scientific advancements he discovers in the future. Mona discovers Cornelius’ true intention, and this causes a wedge between them. Facing the reality of never finding Herman, being lost in time, and his name being forgotten in history, Cornelius experiences a meltdown. Mona brings Herman to Cornelius, they share a moment, and he begs Mona to help him send Herman back to his rightful time. After sending her Herman back, King (leader of the rebellion) and her crew of rebels propose Cornelius to stay and assist them in their fight to save mother earth from dying.

Cornelius abandons the idea of returning to his timeline and agrees to join forces with Mona and King to save mother earth. Otto deceives the leaders of the world by leaving everyone behind and deciding to clone whomever he sees fit to inhabit the new earth on mars with him as their leader. Relying on magic from the African ancestors combined with new science and technology, Cornelius and Mona come up with a way to stabilize the chaotic climate on earth and transport as many people as they can, including animals on spaceships as the earth becomes more uninhabitable. From the ships, Cornelius and others witness the earth cover in flames of lava and slowly burn away. Cornelius, Mona, and King look toward the future for new possibilities of rebuilding elsewhere.
