SYNOPSIS:

“The King of Justice” combines dynamic material from Bello’s first two award-winning novels, Betrayal of Faith and Betrayal of Justice.

Zachary Blake is teetering on the brink of alcohol-fueled disaster. Once heralded as Detroit’s “King of Justice” with a thriving law practice, the now-floundering lawyer’s arrogance got him kicked out of his prestigious firm. He now practices from a one-room office on the seedy end of town. Aside from his heavy drinking, he dodges collectors, disgruntled mobsters, and an ex-wife who seeks past-due alimony and child support. But fortunes sometimes change—Blake suddenly has a chance at redemption, with not one, but two quality cases.

A new, bigoted POTUS, hero to white supremacists everywhere, delivers his inaugural address, promising to “Make America Pure Again.” In Dearborn, a white supremacist answers the president’s call and bombs a local mosque. A young Muslim woman, Arya Khan, distrustful of cops, tracks down the bomber and follows him. She’s shocked to witness her suspect stabbed by another supremacist. Rushing to the victim’s aid, she tries to stop the bleeding. As the bomber takes his last breath, Arya begins to experience symptoms of dizziness and nausea. The last words she hears as she loses consciousness: “Dearborn Police, drop the knife!”

At the same time, a determined mother reluctantly retains Blake after discovering that her priest abused her sons. The church attempts to cover-up his crimes. Jennifer Tracey once liked and respected Zack but is troubled by this disheveled version of the once great lawyer. His brilliant handling of her husband’s wrongful death case compels her give Blake a chance. However, a clandestine church organization and its evil leader intend to minimize the scandal—by any means possible. Zack’s desperation threatens to capsize the case before it begins—he intends to settle the case as quickly as possible for an easy fee.

Back and forth, from one case to the other, Zachary Blake seeks to resurrect long-forgotten legal and trial skills. Can he match wits and talent with the sinister Bishop and his Coalition? The president of the United States? Has he lucked into the trials of the century or a fast track to permanent disgrace?
