Orphaned as a child, a young Vietnamese mountain boy named "Kip" fights the invading North Vietnamese Army in the early 1960s, until befriended by a grizzled US Marine, who gifts him with a keychain-globe of the world, pointing out tiny Vietnam and on its reverse side, his own home in the Carolinas, USA, but when a Court Marshal imprisons the soldier stateside, abandoning Kip to war-ravaged Cambodia, the young boy sets out with only his tiny globe on a perilous solo journey across a dangerous, prejudiced world, desperate to reunite with his marine father-figure.
