A group of kids must reach Key West to recover a mythical treasure that may save their sister's life while being pursued by two criminals after the same treasure.
SYNOPSIS:
In a swamp somewhere in Central Florida in the 2000s, three divers uncover a cylinder containing a treasure map. Two of the divers knock out their companion and run off with the map. Elsewhere in the suburbs, SASHA RUIZ, a twelve-year-old girl, feels lonely and neglected at home as her family mourns the passing of her older sister, Alicia. Inspired by the Goonies, Sasha recruits her two best friends, RIKER and POLLOCK to drive to Key West to buy a souvenir she believes will shake her parents out of their grief by reminding them of a previous family vacation and better times. The kids try to steal the family car but ELENA, Sasha’s other older sister stops them. Riker convinces Elena, who’s sixteen, to drive them to Key West by telling her that her crush and his older brother, Rick, is there. On the way, they pick up Elena’s best friend, ANNIE.
On the highway, the crew stops at a gas station at the same time as the two divers, LUIS and MAX, who have just had the map stolen from them. The kids are attacked by a gator and are saved by FLORIDA MAN who Luis and Max recognize as their thief. Before fleeing, Florida Man throws the cylinder with the map into Elena’s car. Stressed out by the experience, Elena makes a wrong turn and gets lost in the swamp. Elena and Sasha fight and Sasha runs off with the cylinder. The kids are saved again by Florida Man from getting bitten by a snake. Florida Man explains that the map leads to a mythical wishing chest that was recovered from a sunken Spanish galleon, Nuestra Señora de Atocha. The chest will grant one wish to whoever finds it. He gives them the map before disappearing again. Sasha hopes to use the wish to bring back Alicia but does not tell Elena.
Max and Luis are sidetracked in their pursuit of the kids when their mother, LAURA, calls them to pick her up after getting evicted. Luis and Laura exhibit a tense relationship and Laura is clueless to the duo’s criminal activities. The map leads the kids to Fort Lauderdale where they recover the key to the chest from a small island. While staying in a motel, Max and Luis try to ambush the kids, but they manage to escape. The kids reach Key West and start digging for the treasure but find nothing. Sasha and Elena fight again when it is revealed that Alicia is not dead but suffering from schizophrenia and Sasha was hoping that the Key West souvenir would snap her out of it. Sasha runs off in tears. Max, Luis, and Laura arrive in Key West.
Elena tries to start the car to no avail. Riker’s brother, Rick, finds them and offers to tow their car and give them a ride back north. Sasha realizes that they were digging in the wrong place for the treasure and the kids go to the new location. Max and Luis catch up to the kids and force them to dig at gunpoint. The kids find the chest but as soon as Sasha puts the key in, the ground gives out underneath them and everyone becomes trapped in a cavern of the chest’s own making. After almost dying in a booby trap, the group reaches the chest. The kids knock Luis out and Sasha prepares to make her wish. Florida Man appears them and warns them that if she wishes for Alicia’s life, she’ll have to trade hers in return. Sasha declines and offers Luis the wish who wants to use it to bring back his dead brother, Luke, who he believes Laura loved more than him or Max. Laura stops Luis from sacrificing himself, saying she can’t lose another son. The cavern disappears and everyone ends up back on the surface. The kids run off and cops arrest Luis and Max.
The kids return home, changed by their adventures. Sasha and Elena visit Alicia in the residence home where Sasha gives Alicia the souvenir, a turtle bracelet. Although initially cold, Alicia shows some mild signs of recognition. Sasha and Elena leave the residence home hand in hand, a little more hopeful.

Hey Dan Guardino Thanks for the feedback!! I definitely agree, it could use a hint of the kids' motivations, I'll have a brainstorm and see how I can work that in without making it overly long :)
