THE CANDY KINGDOM GAMES

THE CANDY KINGDOM GAMES
By Areale Hanks

GENRE: Animation, Adventure
LOGLINE:

When Lord Licorice Black, ruler of the Bitterlands—a harsh realm of salty snacks, black licorice, rejected flavors, broken wrappers, and unwanted products—turns the year’s most competitive Candy Kingdom Games into a trap for every salty and “unsalty” snack seeking acceptance, textured-chocolate underdog Coco “Cris” Crisp must carry his injured best friend Twizzle Redvine across a tie-breaking finish, expose the tournament sabotage, unite the rival competitors, and rescue the taken champion Prince Reese Royale before the Bitterlands seizes the kingdom’s rejected citizens and claims them as its property.

Can Cris unite Candy Kingdom’s divided competitors, rescue Prince Reese Royale, and stop Lord Licorice from claiming the kingdom’s rejected snacks before the Bitterlands takes control?

SYNOPSIS:

Candy Kingdom is a dazzling confectionery metropolis where the annual Candy Kingdom Games promise salty, unsalted, and rejected snacks a chance to earn recognition, training, and permanent citizenship. Beneath the fireworks, wrapper parades, and sugar-glass arenas, however, the kingdom’s system favors polished candies while forcing outsiders to compete for the right to belong.

At the center of the Games is Coco “Cris” Crisp, a quiet, textured-chocolate underdog who has spent his life believing his rough appearance makes him less valuable than the kingdom’s smoother, more celebrated products. Although Cris possesses the strongest instincts on his mixed team, leadership belongs to his polished best friend, Twizzle “T-Vine” Redvine, who privately believes Cris is the better captain.

Their team includes strategist Minty Max, Bitterlands-born storyteller Gummi “Glow” Glow, aerial commander Poppy “Cap” Kernel, and Dotty Crunch, an ambitious unsalted pretzel who believes she must be coated in chocolate before Candy Kingdom will accept her. As the competitors survive melting streets, syrup gaps, pretzel bridges, popcorn launch courses, and increasingly dangerous relay events, Cris begins making the decisions that keep the team together.

The tournament is secretly being sabotaged by Lord Licorice Black, ruler of the Bitterlands—a harsh region populated by black licorice, salty snacks, broken wrappers, rejected flavors, unwanted products, and citizens denied access to Candy Kingdom. Licorice argues that the kingdom’s sweetness has always depended on excluding others, but he weaponizes that injustice into a plan to claim every unrecognized snack as Bitterlands property.

During the decisive Golden Wrapper Relay, Twizzle reaches the final handoff injured and the team is far behind. Cris refuses to leave him, carries Twizzle across the final stretch, and brings the team to a tie. The moment makes Cris publicly undeniable, but recognition is delayed. Soon afterward, Cris discovers that Twizzle recovered sooner than he admitted and continued acting injured because he feared Cris would surrender leadership once Twizzle returned. Their friendship fractures just as Licorice activates the next stage of his plan.

Before the final recognition ceremony can be completed, Licorice invokes the Black Wrapper Accord, kidnaps royal champion Prince Reese Royale, and threatens to seize every salty, unsalted, and Bitterlands-connected competitor before sunrise. Princess Crème assumes command of the kingdom, while Glow finally reveals the true story of his Bitterlands past and provides the route into Licorice’s territory.

The team enters the Bitterlands through a rescue course built from corrupted versions of the Games. Every competitor’s supposedly lesser quality becomes essential: Poppy and the Crunch Crew command the aerial rescue, Dotty and the Pretzel Pack stabilize the collapsing coating works, Minty directs the strategy, Glow turns Bitterlands citizens against Licorice, Twizzle makes an honest sacrifice without manipulating the outcome, and Princess Crème completes the legal recognition broadcast.

In the final confrontation, Cris realizes that leadership does not mean accomplishing everything alone. He delegates the rescue of Reese and the completion of the recognition ceremony, then enters Licorice’s souring engine because his rough, textured chocolate can withstand the heat, pressure, contamination, and cracking that smoother candies cannot.

Prince Reese is rescued, Licorice’s ownership claim collapses, and the citizens of the Bitterlands reject his attempt to turn their pain into another form of control. Candy Kingdom survives only after confronting the exclusion built into its traditions. The Games are permanently reformed so that no snack must change its flavor, texture, packaging, or identity to earn a place in the kingdom.

At the next Wrapper Parade, Dotty and the Pretzel Pack march at the front beneath their own unsalted banner. Cris is introduced as captain, but he redirects the celebration toward the entire team—proving that the sweetest victory is not won alone, but shared.
