After years in Europe and America, brilliant wildlife veterinarian Dr. Lena Zondo returns home to Botswana and is assigned to Sanaa, an unusually intelligent elephant whose violent escapes from captivity have made her a danger to herself and others. When Lena releases Sanaa under high-tech observation and follows her toward a forgotten refuge in the Angolan Highlands, she discovers the elephant is gathering animals and human communities ahead of a catastrophic underground collapse, forcing Lena to risk her career, unite resistant governments, and accept that saving millions may depend not on controlling the natural world, but on finally listening to it.
