After a deadly late-January storm in Chicago’s Bronzeville neighborhood leaves imaginative twelve-year-old Zora Bennett and her emotionally withdrawn father, Jermaine, unconscious beneath an atlas blanket sewn by her late mother, Jacqueline, they awaken inside Dolor, a magnificent world of forgotten roads. To return to their bodies, they must find the Keeper of the Heart's Compass and confront the grief dividing them before their untreated pain transforms Dolor into a monster-filled nightmare and erases their only road home.
