JANITOR MAN AND GARBAGE GIRL
By Richard Wilkinson

GENRE: Sci-fi
LOGLINE:

A grieving young janitor and his trash-collecting best friend begin an unusual contract after meeting a vigilante with extraterrestrial origins.

SYNOPSIS:

"Janitor Man and Garbage Girl” is an “A24” style grounded superhero feature akin to a “Kick Ass” meets “Napoleon Dynamite.” This exciting, funny and poignant story is about two quirky underdogs falling in love while fighting against an evil city landlord who, in a unique twist, is one of two aliens stranded on earth.

The story follows flat-footed janitor Teddy Bonner struggling to find courage after failing to fight back when his brother was beaten by the landlord’s thugs. All the while, Teddy’s colorful, bubbly best friend Piper, a garbage collector with karate skills, insists Teddy’s special.

Mugged, beaten, evicted, his brother in a coma, Teddy finds himself being offered a glowing green drink by his strange cat-food eating neighbor George, George having just made wallpaper out of his noisy neighbors. George, a marooned alien in human form, insists the drink will make Teddy a new man with superpowers. With these powers, Teddy can take revenge for his beaten brother and stop Mr. Hammer, George’s nemesis, from destroying earth. If Teddy succeeds, George promises him the last existing dose ensuring Teddy’s powers will last forever.

Teddy, thinking George crazy, refuses. But after Piper rescues Teddy from being bullied yet again, Teddy, desperate to change, returns and drinks the alien Kool-aide. Teddy will do as asked, but only has twenty-four hours before the powers wear off.

The next day Teddy comically discovers his powers before saving Piper from the city’s evil henchmen. Piper, martial art fighting skills herself, and Teddy become a super duo. They will need a costume, and Piper knows where to find anything – at the city dump. There, under squawking seagulls, the two shy nerds begin to fall in love, later tenderly watching a drive-in movie sitting atop her garbage truck.

Quirky superheroes with a plan, Teddy and Piper assault Mr. Hammer’s high-rise. Critically wounding Mr. Hammer after an exciting battle, Teddy sees George sneak off with the alien gateway’s power source. George is the real villain! Teddy and Piper chase after George only to find him readying the gateway machine in the old apartment’s elegant ballroom.

Teddy, his powers faded, refuses to drink the last dose. Teddy will instead use it to save his brother.

Mr. Hammer arrives and, in a final epic tussle in the shimmering threshold of the gateway, aliens appearing on the other side, Teddy yanks the power source and destroys the gateway, disintegrating George and Mr. Hammer.

Superpowers gone, flat-footed Teddy returns with Piper to the city’s renown deadly crosswalk. Stopping car after car with defiant hand, Teddy walks an old lady across the street. On the other side, Piper tiptoe-kisses him on the cheek, “her superhero.” The two turn arm-in-arm towards the park where Teddy’s recovering brother awaits
